House Committee to Consider Child Abuse Legislation

WHAT: The House Children and Youth Committee, chaired by state Rep. Karen Boback (R-Luzerne/Lackawanna/Wyoming), will vote on two pieces of legislation dealing with different aspects of child abuse:

House Bill 316 (Owlett) – Would establish a task force to examine the opioid abuse epidemic’s impact on infants and children.

House Bill 835 (Petrarca) – Would allow county child welfare caseworkers to access a child’s medical, school and other records during the course of an investigation into suspected child abuse.

Also to be considered is House Bill 856 (Boback), which would reinstate the extension of permanent legal custodian and adoption assistance subsidies to children from 18 to 21 years of age.
