Scarnati, Owlett Congratulate Local Teacher on National Recognition
November 8, 2018
HARRISBURG – This week, Sen. Joe Scarnati (R-25) and Rep. Clint Owlett (R-Tioga/Bradford/Potter) presented Wade Owlett, Rep. Owlett’s brother, with citations from the Pennsylvania Senate and House of Representatives on being named the 2018-19 Monsanto Fund Rural Teacher of the Year by the National Rural Education Association.
Mr. Owlett earned undergraduate degrees in journalism and international studies from Lock Haven University and the University of New England in Armidale, Australia, and a master’s degree in education from Mansfield University. He is currently a teacher at Clark Wood Elementary School in the Northern Tioga School District with a focus on teaching English and language skills. He also teaches historical thinking through social studies and STEM skills in science.
“We congratulate Wade for receiving this high honor,” said Scarnati. “Here in rural Pennsylvania we are fortunate to have outstanding teachers, like Wade, who focus their lives on helping students reach their full potential.”
“I have always said that the Northern Tier produces great talent, and Wade is just one example,” said Representative Owlett. “The students at Clark Wood are fortunate to have a dedicated teacher like Wade to instruct them. As his brother, I can personally attest to his commitment and enthusiasm for teaching, as well as his devotion to the rural area where we grew up. Wade is helping to lead the charge in changing the way we approach education with new and innovative ideas.”
Before the presentation of legislative citations from both Rep. Owlett and Sen. Scarnati (R-25), students from Clark Wood read letters thanking Mr. Owlett for being a great educator and mentor.
When asked what advice Mr. Owlett would give others, he said, “Work hard, surround yourself with good people and always stay true to yourself, your values and your ethics.”
The National Rural Education Association is an organization of rural school administrators, teachers, board members, regional service agency personnel, researchers, business and industry representatives, and others interested in maintaining the vitality of rural school systems across the country.
