HARRISBURG –State Sen. Gene Yaw (R-23) and State Rep. Clint Owlett (R-68) today announced $550,000 in state funding has been awarded to two Tioga County projects through Pennsylvania’s Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA). The awards were considered at today’s CFA Board meeting and approved through the Authority’s Multimodal Transportation Fund (MTF) program.

“Maintaining and improving our roads, bridges, and local streetscapes is an essential component of ensuring the safety and mobility of residents and other commuters who travel them each day,” Sen. Yaw said. “I was pleased to work with Rep. Owlett and our local officials to help make these projects a reality.”

“Whether we’re helping to replace a flood-damaged bridge or boosting pedestrian safety, these grants are important investments in making sure our residents can safely get where they need to go,” Rep. Owlett said. “I appreciate the opportunity to work with Sen. Yaw and our local officials to help move these projects across the finish line.”

The largest award went to Roseville Borough, which received $350,000 to replace the Benson Avenue Bridge. Additionally, the Borough of Wellsboro will receive $200,0000 to improve Main Street sidewalks.

“We were hit really hard with flood waters from storms in July 2021 that caused heavy damage across the borough, including this bridge. We did a band-aid fix but knew if we got hit with flooding again, it would be a major problem,” Donna Baker, Roseville Borough Council president, said. “As a small community, we didn’t have the money to replace it and we’re so appreciative of the help from Sen. Yaw and Rep. Owlett to secure this grant.”

"On behalf of the Borough of Wellsboro, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Sen. Yaw and Rep. Owlett for their continued support and assistance in securing this generous award,” Louis Rachiele, Wellsboro Borough Manager, said. “This contribution will improve access to our local businesses and help maintain the safety of our sidewalks.”

The Multimodal Transportation Fund provides grants to encourage economic development and ensure that a safe and reliable system of transportation is available to the residents of the Commonwealth. Funds may be used for the development, rehabilitation, and enhancement of transportation assets to existing communities, streetscape, lighting, sidewalk enhancement, pedestrian safety, connectivity of transportation assets, and transit-oriented development.
