Grants to Aid Canton Area Schools With Cafeteria Upgrades, Owlett Says
January 28, 2020
HARRISBURG – Canton Area School District will receive two grants to help upgrade some of their cafeteria equipment, Rep. Clint Owlett (R-Tioga/Bradford/Potter) announced today.
Canton Elementary School will receive $52,367 to purchase a gas convection steamer, while Canton High School will receive $6,373 for an electric convection oven.
“Studies have found students who struggle with hunger have greater difficulty with concentration and learning at school,” Owlett said. “I’m pleased these grants will help Canton area schools continue to meet the nutrition needs of its students.”
The funding is awarded to schools that participate in the National School Lunch Program and have 50% or more of students eligible for free or reduced-price meals. Schools often use the grants to purchase new refrigerators, freezers, stoves and dishwashers.
Across the state, more than $925,000 in funding was awarded to 72 schools.
